Chutneys are Indian condiments that are sweet and spicy, and often part of most Indian menus. Also known as chatni or catni, this component is served for main course meals as well as snacks. Most Indian course meals are accompanied by side dishes. This side dish is in powder form and can be wet or dry.
Chutneys are tasty and meant to be eaten fresh. Preservation agents are scarcely used for situations when the chutney is intended to be eaten at a later time. As chutney consists of chopped vegetables with seasoning, it is often compared to the Latin salsa dip and to the European relish. To make chutney, crushing ingredients together is the main process. In Hindi, the phrase “to make chutney” means “the crush”. The tool used in making chutney is the stone chutney maker. This is a small stone bowl called “kharal” and “khal” of a flat stone called “sil”. Here, the ingredients are crushed using round stick, stone or wood.
If you enjoy green chili peppers, fruits, and vegetables, then you will surely enjoy chutneys too. Some of the more popular kinds of chutneys are Indian mango chutney, and coriander chutney. Other variants include coconut chutney, tomato chutney, tamarind chutney, lime chutney, garlic chutney, and onion chutney.
Making chutneys is easy with simple ingredients and steps. Below are some Indian chutney recipes. The recipes are easy to create at home. For the Indian mango chutney recipe, the ingredients you need are one-half kilogram of mango, peeled and chopped, one cup raisins, one cup sugar, three-fourths cup vinegar, 250 grams of chopped ginger, one clove of chopped garlic, and one teaspoon salt. All you have to do is to mix all of these ingredients and boil them. You can then lower the heat and continue simmering for about 45 minutes. Wait until the mixture becomes thick.
Meanwhile, for the coriander chutney recipe, you need a bunch of chopped coriander, three to four green chilies, one small onion, lemon juice, three teaspoon sugar, one pinch of amchur, two to three garlic flakes, salt, and red chili powder.
