Indian Vegetarian Recipes : Eating for Good Karma

The Hindu religion prohibits the consumption of meat from animals. For them, you should avoid causing pain to animals as “karma” can reverse and go against you. Animals are regarded as sacred and have spiritual awareness. However, if a Hindu consumes animal meat, they will have to balance the karma through good deeds and actions.

In Hinduism, there is a high regard for food. They actually have the saying that “Food is God”, and that food has energies that can be absorbed by the eater. As such, there are some types of food that are not allowed and to be avoided. An example is beef, although dairy products like milk, yogurt, and butter are allowed for spiritual purity. This is why majority of their dishes consist of vegetables, and Indian vegetarian recipes are varied.

One of these vegetables is mustard seed. Mustard seeds are old spices highly valued for their antiseptic, warming, and antibacterial properties. They provide your body with omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, iron, and protein. Its leaves can be eaten as vegetables, and its flowers, pods and seeds can be made into spices. Other famous Indian vegetables used in Indian vegetarian recipes are Aloo Gobi or the cauliflower, Dahl or the lentils, Aloo Methi or fenugreek greens, and Palak Paneer or the spinach.
